Cross Country Spectating

The term ‘Cross Country’ covers a huge range of differing types of racing and trials, but they all use the challenging terrain that four-wheel-drive vehicles were designed to fight their way through. And that includes an awful lot of mud, sand and deep puddles.

To spectate at a Cross Country event, you’ll need to pack wellington boots and warm clothing, because most of the competitions take place in the depths of the countryside.

In particular, check out Safaris or Hill Rallies if you fancy watching high speed driving over rough tracks, bogs and muddy heathland.

They are full of stripped down, tuned-up Land Rovers and 4x4s battling against specialised Dakar Rally-style vehicles such as the fearsome, V8-powered Bowler Wildcats. Seeing one of these thunderous beasts roaring towards you, ricocheting over rocks, ruts and jumps without the driver lifting off the throttle once, is an incredible experience, and will leave you hooked for life.
